BSDA reports on soft drinks industry
success
The 2012 UK Soft Drinks
Report reveals that the soft drinks industry grew in value by
5.1 per cent in 2011 to reach more than £14.5
billion.
Published by the British Soft Drinks
Association, with data from Zenith International, the report also
reveals that consumption grew by 0.7 per cent to reach more than
14.6 billion litres, or 253.3 litres per person.
The report has the title “Long-term commitment for
long-term success” and showcases examples of achievement in the
soft drinks industry over the past 100 years and also in the past
year.
Highlights in 2011 include:
- Bottled water consumption up by
2.2 per cent to reach 33.6 litres per person
- Carbonates consumption up by 4.1
per cent, of which 38 per cent is now diet, low calorie or no added
sugar
- Dilutables retail value up by 3.7
per cent to reach £945 million
- Fruit juice and
smoothies grew in retail value by 4.2 per cent to
reach £1.8 billion, and with a volume of 1160 million litres
provided 124 servings of fruit juice per person
- Still and juice
drinks consumption increased by 1.2 per cent to reach 1.47
billion litres
- The market for sports and
energy drinks grew by 10 per cent last year, to
reach 660 million litres
