Flavourings

Flavours are present in virtually every soft drink. They may be obtained from natural or artificial sources and are used to respond to increasing consumer demands for a wide spectrum of different tasting foods and drinks.

Natural flavourings

These are derived from a wide range of fruits, vegetables, nuts, bark, leaves, herbs, spices and oils. Soft drinks containing natural flavours may also need to include a preservative to prevent spoilage.

Nature identical

These are manufactured synthetically and are chemically identical to natural flavours.

Artificial flavours

Artificial flavours are also manufactured synthetically but are not chemically identical to natural flavours.

These types of flavourings are used to give consumers a greater choice in taste and also to provide an alternative, more efficient and cost-effective way to deliver a certain flavour profile.
