Labelling

By law the following pieces of information are required to be always found on the label of a soft drink:

  • the name of the product
  • the weight or volume of the drink
  • the ingredients
  • date marking and storage instructions
  • instructions for use - particularly relevant to dilutable drinks
  • name and address of the manufacturer

place of origin

All the information should be easy to understand, clearly legible and indelible and marked in a conspicuous place so that it is clearly visible. It must not be hidden, obscured or interrupted by any other written or pictorial matter.

Nutritional information is not compulsory except when a specific nutrition claim is being made such as low sodium or sugar, or high fibre. Some companies voluntarily provide this information in the form of signpost labelling, as an aid to consumers to help them identify the amount of different nutrients in the food they eat and drink. This also helps people with special dietary needs to determine foods which meet their requirements.
