Nichols CEO elected as new BSDA President

Nichols CEO Dr Marnie Millard OBE has been appointed as the new President of the British Soft Drinks Association following election at the BSDA AGM.

Dr Millard takes over from Leendert den Hollander, Vice President and General Manager at Coca Cola European Partners, who played a key role in his two-year stewardship of the BSDA in helping to drive forward a variety of health and environment initiatives.

After 17 years working in the soft drinks sector, Dr Millard was headhunted by Nichols in 2012 to become Managing Director of its flagship brand Vimto before being formally appointed CEO of the entire group nine months later. She was appointed Vice President of the BSDA in 2018.

Dr Millard said: “As someone who is passionate about this sector, I am delighted to be elected as the new BSDA President. I aim to continue the outstanding work of Leendert and past presidents on making further significant progress on a wide range of soft drinks-related issues.

“Innovation abounds among BSDA members who are offering consumers an array of exciting options that cater to their evolving tastes and dietary preferences. As a result, sugar intake from soft drinks decreased by 28.1% between March 2016 and March 2020 (Kantar Worldpanel).

“We are working with the Scottish Government to develop its deposit return scheme (DRS), which is currently due to be introduced in July 2022, one year before England and Wales get their DRS. In due course, we hope to have a DRS in operation across Great Britain, alongside much-needed reform of the packaging producer responsibility system.”

Paul Graham, Managing Director at Britvic, has been appointed following election to replace Dr Millard as Vice President of the BSDA.

Graham joined Britvic in 2012 as Customer Management Director, before taking on the Managing Director position a little under 12 months later. Prior to joining Britvic, Graham spent nearly nine years working for United Biscuits.
