Introduction to Basic Microbiology in Soft Drinks Manufacture

If you have answered 'yes' to all of these questions then attendance on this workshop is a must for you.

Through presentations, demonstrations and hands-on practical activities, you will gain an understanding of what is involved in microbiological examination of samples, the significance of laboratory results and what action may be necessary to control the growth of particular organisms.

Outline programme of workshop:

  • The nature, occurrence and use of micro-organisms
  • The practical study of bacteria, yeasts and moulds
  • Introduction to microbiological techniques
  • Culture media and methods of isolation and identification
  • Preservatives and preservative resistant organisms.

Tuition is provided by Reading Scientific Services Ltd (RSSL). Training is focused and delivered with an industry reactive approach that reflects the changing requirements of today's food and drink industry professional.  The course is run at the Science and Technology Centre of the University of Reading, whilst utilising the laboratories and expertise within RSSL for this training.

Accommodation is not included in the fees for this two-day workshop.  However, a suggested list of hotels, guest houses etc, all located in the area and diverse enough to suit all budgets, is available on request.
